Capital Improvement Projects

Investing in Reliable Service for Our Growing Community

Ironhouse Sanitary District maintains a wastewater system that serves over 48,000 Oakley and Bethel Island residents. Beginning in 2026 and continuing through 2031, the District will invest in upgrading aging infrastructure, meeting environmental regulations, and preparing for community growth through a series of Capital Improvement Projects. Improvements include building new wastewater pipelines to better handle storm-related flows, upgrading lift stations with modern monitoring technology, repairing and replacing aging sewer pipes, and replacing essential maintenance vehicles. At the Water Recycling Facility, upgrades will improve treatment processes, add modern control systems, and help ensure continued environmental compliance.

These investments will:

  • Reduce the risk of sewer overflows, equipment failures, and emergency repairs.
  • Improve the reliability of wastewater service during storms and wet weather.
  • Protect public health and the environment.
  • Keep essential infrastructure operating safely and efficiently.
  • Support future growth in Oakley and Bethel Island.
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Help avoid more costly repairs in the future by addressing infrastructure needs now.

Ironhouse Sanitary District operates and maintains more than $160 million in critical infrastructure, including 144 miles of gravity sewer pipelines, 19 miles of pressurized forcemain pipelines, 32 lift stations, and the Water Recycling Facility treatment plant. These systems operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, to protect public health and the environment. By reinvesting in infrastructure today, the District is helping ensure reliable wastewater service for current residents while preparing for the needs of future generations.
